Dear Twimbow user,we have two big announcements today:

a new beta release of our social media dashboard Twimbow is now available (v1.2, lots of new stuff!)
Twimbow is now open to everyone!

Yes, it’s true! After months of development and tons of bugs fixed (and introduced) we are proud to inform you that Twimbow is open to everyone. Yes, your friends don’t need to hunt for an invitation anymore ;-)

Joining Twimbow is very easy: tell your friends to go to Twimbow.com and signup (we have a new homepage, too!). Anyone can create a new account in 30 seconds or use OpenID with Google or Yahoo account. After that, you can easily add your first Twitter account and start enjoying the best social media hub on the Web ;-) If you use Chrome, you can also install Twimbow’s Web Application so it will be always available in your browser’s tabs.

What are you waiting for? Please go to http://www.twimbow.com and try Twimbow 1.2. You might need to logout and login back again to see the update.

Here are the main new features.

NEW: noise killer. You can now create filters to remove any tweet containing certain keywords from your timeline, personal buzz and lists . Create as many filters as you want and enjoy focusing on what really matters for you and removing unwanted noise. Filters don’t work on searches at the moment, please let us know whether you like this behavior or not.

NEW: faster status update (much faster!). Now status updates are performed in background and the “new update” window will not block you from performing other activities while your status/tweet is being sent. Lots of users asked for that!

NEW: better handling of color filters in the home buzz. Now, if you click ONCE on the little colored square below an avatar in the home buzz / list view, it filters-in just users color-coded with that specific color, if you click AGAIN it restores all the other colors, too.

NEW: new behavior of the RT of me. In the previous versions, the RT of me (your messages that have been retweeted) were shown together with the avatars of the people who actually retweeted them (at the bottom of the message). Now, it justs shows a link saying “by x people” (where “x” is the number of users who retweeted it). If you click on that link, the avatars (clickable) of the people who retweeted will be shown. This is a little change that improves the performances of the personal buzz dramatically. Nothing actually changes, you just need one more click, but it’s worth it ;-)

NEW: added a few tooltips in the main UI and a few “?” to help understand the meaning of a few items in the Settings panel.

NEW: adding a new account is now easier. Just click on the “+” icon on the right of your main account.

NEW: optimized profile browser. When you click on an avatar to open his/her profile, it will show you the profile only and, if you want to see his/her tweets, you need to click one more time. This reduces the API calls and provides a much faster response.

NEW: added image preview for Camera+ and Lockerz.

NEW: a few little graphical tweaks

NEW: in the central column, when you click on the vertical colored bar on the left of a tweet, it now shows the available labels and the current one is underlined (helpful in case you are using labels with similar colors)

NEW: performances. The overall speed of the Twimbow UI should be way faster in most computers now. We optimized some graphics effects and now perform some activities in background. Please let us know if you can see the difference.

FIX: TONS of bugs

FIX: removed the retweet option for received DMs

FIX: some tags in the form #xyz were wrongly translated into color codes

Last but not least, Twimbow just moved to new servers that will guarantee incredible performances for our users, thanks to RackSpaceCloud.

Here are the main new features.

New Settings

Completely re-designed settings window. Settings are now splitted between two views and one view is dedicated to the “look & feel” only. Moreover, the new settings window works better with low-res netbooks.

White Skin

The much requested light skin is finally here! Don’t you like the default dark skin? Now you can choose between a dark (default) skin and a new white skin.

Small Toolbar and audio notifications

If you think the default toolbar is too big or it doesn’t play well together with the new white skin, you can now choose a small one with minimalistic icons. In the following versions, more skins and toolbars will be available. Moreover, we added optional audio notifications for DM and mentions for all your accounts.

We are happy to announce a new major beta release of your social media dashboard Twimbow.

What are you waiting for? Please go to http://www.twimbow.com and migrate your account to version 1.0. It takes 20 seconds!

Here is what’s new.

Twimbow Account

When you first login to Twimbow 1.0, you will be asked to complete a very quick sign-up process in order to get your Twimbow account. We need this step in order to offer most of the new features we introduced in this version. From then on, you will be able to access Twimbow through the email/password you chose during this process. It is mandatory for all users.

Multi-account

Twimbow 1.0 lets you manage up to three Twitter accounts. Each account has its own independent life. No more tweets sent by error with the wrong account! You can smoothly switch from one account to another at the speed of light with one click and the UI will clearly tell you which account you are using and it’s impossible to be wrong.

While using one of the accounts you setup, you will also get realtime visual notifications about the other accounts, so you can immediately switch to another account to check what’s happening or to reply etc.

Labels

Do you like Gmail labels? Then you will like Twimbow labels. In version 1, you are now able to color-code users as usual, but each color can be labeled, so you can categorize users more effectively. No limit to the number of available labels.

Cloud

One of the things our users were complaining for is that settings and color labels were not being saved in the cloud, so if you change computer or even browser, you loose all your preferences. Version 1.0 solves that and everything is now saved in the “cloud” so no matter what browser/computer you are using, you will find all your colors, labels, settings and so on.

New Reader

We released a brand new Twimbow Reader. Now accuracy should be around 99%. You should be able to preview pretty much any article, news, blog post. Let us know if you find anything wrong!

Netbooks

The version of Twimbow currently online is not really netbook-friendly. Twimbow’s UI doesn’t fit with netbooks’ screen size so users have to use horizontal scrolling, something annoying. We solved this by introducing the “compact view”. This new view that can be activated from the settings, will drop the search column so that only 2 columns will be available in the UI. Search can be easily activated through a new button and, when active, the search column will replace the home column and you can easily switch from one to another.

We also slightly reduced the size of big elements like the Profile Viewer so it now fits with a 1024x768 resolution.

Monitor

The Monitor is now bigger and it fits with the computer’s screen resolution. Moreover, it now supports horizontal scrolling, so you can monitor an unlimited number of keywords, tags, lists and users. Last but not least, each monitor box now supports infinite vertical scrolling.

Realtime Search

On Chrome and Safari, Twimbow now supports Twitter’s Streaming API and searches and monitors are now in realtime. You will see new items as soon as they are available on Twitter. On other browsers, search has been optimized in order to require less resources and be faster.

Music Player

If you were used to share songs with your friends on Twimbow, not this feature is even better! You now have a standalone Youtube-powered music player from where you can easily share songs with your followers.

While in the previous versions of Twimbow songs could be played by Twimbow users only, now everyone can see the song you shared through a link generated with our new url shortner “twb.li” and can listen to it.

Twimbow Update

New Version 0.7 Beta available in the Chrome Web Store

Today we are happy to announce a new major beta release of your social media browser Twimbow (and a new logo!).

Every Twimbow user will automatically find the new version at http://twimbow.com (as usual) but if you are a Google Chrome user, you can now install it as a “web app” from the Chrome Web Store.

There are lots of major improvements in this version and we hope you will enjoy all of them.

Release Notes v0.7

NEW: independent and infinite scrolling for the three main columns. Each column is now provided with its own scrolling engine that lets you quickly browse your timeline, lists or searches and the main top toolbar remains always visible.

NEW: automatic update of new tweets. The most-wanted feature requested by our users is now available as an option you can activate from the settings pane. Tweets will be updated automatically and marked with an orange dot. The number of the new, just-shown tweets will be available on top of each column. Clicking on the number of new tweets on top of the column brings you to the newest tweet on top.

NEW: font size. You can now choose among three different sizes: small (as it used to be), medium and big. Font size can be choosen from the settings pane.

NEW: easier browsing of the tweets in the personal buzz. Now you can easily identify the latest tweet for each category and load older tweets for each category independently from each other. You can also quickly go to the newest tweet for each category as well.

NEW: new dark grey background for columns, monitor and profile viewer (instead of black). We noticed it is way easier to read the text and many users asked for it.

NEW: Christmas music tag… did you discover it already? :-)
