Elizabeth Warren, junior senator from MA, reestablishes the meaning of “oversight.”
Beyond the soundbite, “too big to fail has become too big to go to trial,” the Senator clearly understands BATNA, “best alternative to a negotiated agreement.” The government needs to have a credible recourse to this ultimate sanction, if only to improve settlements for cases of wrongdoing by the big fish.
At 1:20, she asks the question we’ve all been wanting someone to ask FOREVER. Then a government lawyer stumbles over his words.
At 2:20, she rattles off another one. Then a government lawyer stumbles over his words.
At 2:55, she asks another lawyer the same question. Said lawyer then tries to not stumble over her words.
At 3:25, she asks the same question again. That lawyer asks for some time.
At 3:45, she gets our back and goes for the knockout punch.
And then right after that you reward her good behavior by sharing this with everyone on the Internet. You know you want to.

BOSTON —The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recommends people who have purchased some water bottles recently check them for gasoline odors.
Officials said people who purchased 3-gallon or 5-gallon bottles since Nov. 1, 2012, open and check them for the odor before using the water. After Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast in October, authorities said gasoline shortages in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut prompted some people to use large water bottles to transport gasoline.
This was another part of the drivetime soundtrack. As I passed over Interstate 93, I was so grateful I did not have to drive into Boston, though all of us were heading into the great maw in our future. Karsh Kale’s glitchy breakbeats blend well with traditional percussion, contrasting in turn with the underlying lullaby. This is a deliciously richly textured piece, the aural equivalent of some galub jamun. Jai Ma!
I got my tickets for the upcoming debate between Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren! Faculty were supposed to be able to reserve four, but there were eleven thousand requests from the general public. Has apathy faded? (Faculty can request to be waitlisted for an additional two, and so I have.)
“Our kids owe a trillion dollars in student loan debt. That’s more than all the credit card debt in America combined. Our kids are crushed by debt and they didn’t go on a shopping spree - they got an education. America ought to be investing in education and building a future for our kids. But Washington’s giving billions to Big Oil and tax breaks to millionaires.”
